Main character of the series Squid Game, Seong Gi-Hun is a man who can be said to be unlucky in life. A lack of luck that, however, could happen to anyone. The character is the embodiment of the fact that a good situation at a given moment can very quickly turn upside down when fate throws you a curve.

Before being the character as we discover him in the series, Seong Gi-Hun was an exemplary husband as well as a father worthy of the name. After having worked in a garage for many years, he tried his hand at the joys of business by starting a restaurant. A short-lived joy as his initiative will prove to be unsuccessful.

Deeply marked by the social demonstrations having killed one of his friends, everything will end up going from bad to worse. Without resources, his wife will end up leaving him and his daughter. He, unable to bounce back, finds himself living with his elderly mother who is forced to work to support him.

Seong Gi-Hun will let himself go to the point of adopting a parasitic behavior. He stole his mother's money to bet on horse races and ruin himself. His situation is such that he is too heavily in debt to ever hope to repay the debt he owes to his creditors, including the Korean mafia. This is why the Squid Game organization will turn its attention to him. Taking advantage of his distress, they will invite him to their deadly games.

After barely surviving the first round, Seong Gi-Hun was one of the candidates who wanted to leave the game and succeeded in doing so by a vote. But his mother's health and the humiliation of having to abandon his daughter one day if he accepts the money from his wife's new husband will lead him to participate again in this infernal game. Now a parasite in the real world, he will use all his resources to win the game. Even to the point of going beyond certain limits that he never thought he would.
